We’re committing 2% of all sales to support African youth surf therapy and development initiatives.
Since our launch in 2017, Mami Wata has been on a mission: to connect the world to African surf culture. A key part of this mission has been supporting African youth surf therapy and development initiatives that empower and transform lives.
These organisations play a vital role in shaping surf culture across the continent. By providing access to the ocean, equipment, and structured coaching, they open the door to surfing for youth who might otherwise never experience its transformative power, and this wonderful activity we love, surfing.
Over the years, we’ve proudly backed organisations such as Waves for Change and Surfers Not Street Children, supporting initiatives like the Harper Sliders in Liberia and the Robertsport Surf Club. Proceeds from our renowned book AFRO SURF also support these initiatives. In 2023, our partnership with Surfers Not Street Children was recognised with a Nelson Mandela Change Maker Award. Recently, to support our collaboration with Billabong, together we funded a mini-bus for the fantastic Surf Kids Shredding Senegal (SKSS) programme, a social surf project in Dakar, Senegal, that uses surfing as a tool for youth empowerment, personal development, and social change.
That means that every time you buy from Mami Wata, you’re directly contributing to these initiatives.
Surfing improves lives. We love it. Together, we make the impact bigger.
